My name is David DeRosier and I am a 25-year resident of Denver and am a licensed plumber in Colorado. I was a plumber at a very large plumbing company for 15 years. I became disabled in February of 2024 and lost my job because I could not perform. Even though I was the top producer at this company up until the day I left, it just wasn't working. As the very steep and slippery slope was right in front of me, there was nothing I could do and I ended up homeless.
Now that I've emerged from that, I have devoted all of my energy and resources in the design of this app. I have opened Abode Genie, a registered LLC in Colorado and a fully functioning business where I am creating the mobile app for homeless individuals called You Are Here. I am a world-class coder,; I have been on computers for 35 years and am an IBM certified AI prompter and developer. You can learn more by clicking on Videos.
Before we start talking about a solution, let's have a very direct conversation about the problem of homelessness and we are going to talk about what most people don't. Let's talk about the people and not the environment or the systems for a moment.
While acknowledging that homelessness is often rooted in broader societal issues such as poverty, lack of affordable housing, and inadequate mental health resources, You Are Here empowers individuals to break free from cycles of dependency through proactive goal setting and measurable progress.
I want to inform you on our views on homelessness and why we know that You Are Here will be the change that so many people need.
During my own time living in the shelter, I had the time to think about what put me there and for me, thankfully, it was very easy math. I had made many poor decisions with money. I made fantastic money, in fact, I was making two hundred thousand dollars per year at one point. I managed that money so poorly and irresponsibly that I had no outs when things started to turn for the worse. I am self-accountable so I took responsibility at that moment and got started on moving forward, and guess what? I set the record for shortest stay at the shelter with a successful exit.
For many others, it starts with an inability to make that calculation based on them not being able to take accountability.
This is where You Are Here comes in. It cannot be manipulated nor bargained with. The reward structure is set to motivate but behind it is a powerful engine, designed to create and foster an environment of winning and success. Our team at Abode Genie is comprised of people who have experienced homelessness themselves and really understand the very environment that the homeless community finds themselves in and knows what's needed at that time. As well, we have brilliant programmers and deigners/developers and coders that know how to make the app work and run a sustainable business.
Our solution at Abode Genie is straightforward, intuitive, and accessible. It is not merely a directory of services but a comprehensive tool that leads users toward independence, including home security and other essential security services. We believe every individual deserves dignity and opportunity, regardless of circumstances.
